Meerut farmer found shot dead after mysterious late-night call
Meerut, Nov. 3 -- A 28-year-old farmer was found shot dead in a forest near Agwanpur village under Parikshitgarh police station limits on Sunday morning. The victim, identified as Rahul Kumar, had been missing since Saturday night after leaving home to meet 'someone'. His blood-soaked body was found in the forest, sending shockwaves through the village.
According to preliminary investigation, Rahul was shot in the chest. Police recovered three empty cartridges from the spot, while forensic experts and a dog squad carried out an extensive inspection of the area. Rahul's father, Tekchand, said, "Rahul was my only son. He was married and had three young boys. We own a tractor and about five to six bighas of farmland. He also had his own vehicle. He recently went to Lucknow to attend Mayawati's rally. He had no known enemies. We have no idea why anyone would kill him."
Tekchand added that Rahul had left home around 8 pm on Saturday, saying he was going to meet someone. "When he didn't return late into the night, we tried calling his mobile, but it went unanswered. We contacted his friends and searched nearby areas, but there was no trace of him. Later, we lodged a missing person's complaint at the Chitwana police outpost," he said. Rahul's cousin Monu said the family began searching for him when he didn't return even after two and a half hours. "We checked CCTV cameras in the area. We thought he might have gone to the fields, where he often sat at Guruji's Thiya. Around 4 am, his in-laws arrived, and our neighbours Krishna and Rishabh went towards the forest. They saw someone lying there and realised it was Rahul. We all rushed to the spot. It looked like he was killed elsewhere and his body was dumped there. There were clear motorcycle tire marks nearby. One bullet was found at the scene, one had pierced his chest, and two others had hit him," he said.
Villagers told police that three young men on a motorcycle were seen on the Agwanpur-Khunti road early Sunday morning. They also found one cartridge near Arif's tubewell, another 50 metres away, and two more near the body. Family members noted that Rahul had left home wearing a different pair of slippers, while another pair was found at the scene - adding to the mystery.
SP (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar said initial investigation suggests Rahul received a call from someone on Saturday night and went out to meet them. "We are investigating who called him and why he was murdered. The crime scene has been sealed within a 200-metre radius, and evidence is being collected.
CCTV footage is being examined. The case will be solved soon and the culprits will be arrested," the SP said....
