MCG terminates experts' services for 'meagre contribution'
Gurugram, June 8 -- The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has terminated the services of 17 consultants and experts with immediate effect. The decision, which was communicated through an order dated June 6, is expected to generate annual savings of nearly Rs.1.2 crore for the civic body, officials said.
The move comes following an internal assessment that found these consultants - primarily retired officials - were drawing salaries and allowances despite "contributing little in terms of domain expertise or project execution", according to senior officials.
Several lacked even the basic technical understanding required for the roles they were assigned, said MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya.
The terminated positions span across departments such as the joint commissioner's office, assistant deputy municipal commissioner's office, fire department, horticulture, sanitation, and vigilance.
The order includes designations such as Expert (Superintendent), Expert (JE), Legal Expert, and general consultant roles.
To be sure, an internal assessment of contract renewals found that many consultants had been appointed without a clear need or transparent merit-based process.
Senior officials within the corporation revealed that some of the appointments appeared to be politically motivated, aimed more at "obliging" individuals.
"Many were receiving not just hefty honorariums but also travel reimbursements and car allowances. It meant receiving double salaries when seen in context of consulting contracts," a senior MCG official said, asking not to be named....
