Gurugram, May 6 -- A 39-year-old man was arrested on Saturday from Nathupur in DLF Phase-III for allegedly impersonating the officer on special duty (OSD) to Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini and persuading a power utility official to remove electric poles from a disputed site, police said on Monday. "The accused was identified as Amit Chaudhary alias Amit Rajpal. After his arrest, it surfaced that he is the nephew of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Sunder Singh and has a history of fraud. He is a habitual cheater who pretends to have high-level political connections," said Vinod Kumar, station house officer (SHO), Sector 56 police station. According to police, Chaudhary contacted a sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) over WhatsApp on April 1, claiming to be the CM's OSD. He demanded that electrical poles be removed from an area in the Aravalli hills, near a property belonging to an acquaintance. "The discom officials found the poles were removed, which raised suspicion. They contacted senior officials in the chief minister's Office, where it was confirmed that the caller was impersonating," SHO Kumar said. To be sure, the poles were not removed amid the commotion. A case was registered under Sections 204 (personating a public servant), 221 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions), and 319 (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said Chaudhary had created a profile on a widely used caller ID application using the OSD's name to mislead the SDO and later turned off the number to avoid being traced. The accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday, police said. ACP (Sadar) Yashwant Yadav said Chaudhary has defrauded others using a similar modus operandi."In 2020, he had duped a Kalka resident of Rs.57 lakh on the promise of getting him a fuel station license," he said. Chaudhary was arrested in that case in December 2022, jailed in Ambala for eight months, and later granted bail. Investigators said he had posed as OSD to Union home minister Amit Shah back then to dupe the victim. Councillor Sunder Singh defended his nephew, claiming there was no intent to impersonate. "He only used the term 'OSD to CM' casually to expedite action on a genuine grievance. Officials have framed him," Singh said....
