Gurugram, Jan. 20 -- Three suspects were arrested from Nathupur in DLF Phase-III on Monday for beating a man to death after he resisted a mobile phone snatching attempt. The accused identified as Naresh Kumar, 24, of Madhubani; Raju Kumar Jha, 28, of Saharsa; and Vipin Kumar, 23, of Darbhanga, all from Bihar and living in Nathupur, police said. A fourth suspect remains at large. The victim, Birbal Oraon, 28, a native of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, lived in Nathupur and worked in housekeeping in DLF Phase II. The incident took place near Nathupur mandi on the intervening night of January 13 and 14 as Oraon returned home while on his phone, police said. Sandeep Turan, PRO of Gurugram police, said the suspects were near a liquor shop when they snatched the phone. "Oraon entered into an argument and asked them to return it. The suspects tried to flee, but Oraon chased them when he was assaulted," he said. The attackers used bricks and stone blocks, striking Oraon's head multiple times. "They had also punched him several times in both the eyes, leaving them swollen," Turan added. Oraon was found by locals and taken to Sector 10A civil hospital, then referred to PGIMS Rohtak for brain surgery. He succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Police learned of the assault on January 15 but could not record his statement as he was on a ventilator. After his death, his family registered a murder case. "On the basis of technical probe and CCTV footage, police arrested the trio and recovered Oraon's phone," said Turan. The accused will be produced before a court on Tuesday for police remand....
