malviya nagar: mother held for killing two daughters
New Delhi, March 23 -- A 54-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her two daughters at their residence in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar earlier this month before attempting suicide by consuming a poisonous substance, police said.
"The woman was discharged from the hospital after due examination. She has since been arrested for the murder of her two daughters. We are still trying to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the reasons leading to the double murder and the alleged suicide attempt. The arrested woman is currently not responding properly to our questions, further investigation is underway," said deputy commissioner of police (south) Anant Mittal.
Police said the case came to light on March 5 evening when a 61-year-old man informed Malviya Nagar police that his wife and daughters were not opening the door of their F-Block residence. A police team broke a window to enter and found the two sisters, aged 34 and 28, dead in separate rooms, while their mother was unconscious with slit wrists.
She was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors suspected she had consumed poison, later recovered from the scene.
Initial investigation revealed the woman and her husband were not on talking terms for eight years. Police said she appeared under mental stress. "She has been evading our questions or giving contradictory statements.she claims she doesn't remember how they were killed," said a police officer....
