Jaipur, May 1 -- At least eight people died in a span of three days from April 26 after they allegedly consumed spurious liquor at Paitpur and Kishanpur villages in Alwar, the family members have alleged. However, dismissing the allegations, the district administration officials said that deaths were results of different reasons. Alwar SP Sanjeev Nain said, "Villagers reported on Tuesday that eight people died after consuming spurious liquor. However, collector Artika Shukla formed a team, led by district excise officer Archana Jaiman. We have spoken to the family members of the victims. The reasons of their deaths seem to be different, which are not connected to any spurious liquor." Officials said the incident happened in Alwar's Paitpur and Kishanpur villages between April 26 and April 28. The villagers on Wednesday called for a mahapanchayat and protested alleging that many illegal liquor shops are being run and are being ignored by the administration, resulting in this tragedy. One of the deceased was identified as Suresh Valmiki (45), who died on April 26. His aunt, Sarita Valmiki, said, "He went to consume alcohol with his friends on the April 25 night... On April 26 morning, he started vomiting severely, following which we took him to a hospital where he was declared dead. Doctor said that he consumed something poisonous. It has to be the liquor." Another victim, Lala Ram (60)'s son, Vikram, said, "My father consumed alcohol on April 28 night and fell sick after few hours. He died when he was taken to the hospital. Seven more people have also died after consuming spurious liquor." He added: "There are several liquor shops which are being run illegally. There are eight to nine other people who have also consumed spurious liquor in the last few days and are admitted in different hospitals." Meanwhile, Jaiman said, "The villagers reported that one died on April 26, two on April 27, while five on April 28. However, we could confirm only six deaths. Two more died on April 28 and are yet to be confirmed." Denying any hooch deaths, she said, "We have spoken to six families. Three of them had consumed excessive liquor, two of them also consumed pesticide, and one died of asthma. We are probing the matter." However, the matter sparked a political controversy as Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully said, "In the name of liquor, poisonous liquor or rather poison business is spreading right under the nose of the police and administration but the government and administration are turning a blind eye." "The government is also trying to hide the death toll, so while the villagers are reporting 8 deaths, the government is reporting only 6 deaths," he wrote on X....
