Junior doctors stage protest, cite DA dues
India, June 27 -- Junior doctors at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College (SABV-GMC) in Faridabad staged a symbolic protest on campus by observing a one-hour pen-down strike while continuing to provide emergency services on Thursday.
The junior doctors wore black armbands as a mark of protest and alleged long-standing neglect and Dearness Allowance (DA) dues. The United Doctors Front (UDF) had submitted a memorandum to additional chief secretary (health) Sudhir Rajpal on Monday, demanding the immediate release of pending Dearness Allowance for junior resident doctors at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College.
The protest, led by UDF's Haryana president Dr Amit Vyas, marks growing unrest among junior doctors, who say they have been denied DA for over two years, despite state policy mandating it.
"Despite a clear policy by the Haryana government, junior residents at SABV-GMC Faridabad have not received their due DA. Institutions like PGIMS Rohtak and BPS Khanpur Kalan are releasing DA regularly. This disparity is demoralizing," said Dr Vyas. The organisation has warned of state-wide protests if the government fails to address the issue. "If the administration remains unresponsive, we will be forced to intensify our agitation," he said...
