New Delhi, Nov. 5 -- The Jawaharlal Nehru University campus buzzed with energy as students voted to elect the 2025-26 JNUSU on Tuesday. Voter turnout was slightly lower than the previous election, with around 67% of the 9,043 eligible voters casting votes, compared to 70% in April. Officials attributed the dip to a routine weekday and fewer scholars on campus. This year's election was held on schedule, adhering to JNU norms mandating polls within six to eight weeks of the academic session's start. The PhD session began on September 12. The previous union had a truncated six-month term. Voting took place in two phases, from 9 am to 1 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Results for the central panel-president, vice-president, general secretary, and joint secretary-plus over 40 councillors, will be declared on November 6. The main contest is between the Left alliance (AISA, SFI, DSF) and the RSS-affiliated ABVP. Left Unity has fielded Aditi Mishra for president, while ABVP's candidate is Vikas Patel.
