Jodhpur/Barmer/Jaisalmer, Oct. 16 -- The death toll in the sleeper bus fire in Jaisalmer district reached 21 after 10-year-old Yunus Khan succumbed to his injuries at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur on Wednesday, a senior police officer said. Jaisalmer superintendent of police Abhishek Shivhare said that two bodies have been identified - that of Yunus and 79-year-old Hussain Khan- and returned to their families. The remaining bodies will undergo DNA identification, he said, adding that authorities were collecting DNA samples from passengers' relatives in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. "Some more human body parts have been recovered from the charred bus. These samples will be sent to the forensic lab in Jodhpur for DNA testing and analysis," the SP said. Nineteen passengers were killed on the spot, he added. The SP said 14 passengers were injured- Mahipal Singh, Omaram Bheel, Manoj Bhatia , Iqbala, Firoze , Bhaga Bai, Peer Mohammad, Imamat, Jeeraj, Vishasha, Ashish (45) , Rafiq (21), Laxman (35) and Ubaidullah (50). Families of victims have meanwhile expressed frustration over the delays in DNA sample collection. Nitesh Chauhan, the brother of journalist Rajendra Singh Chauhan, who counted among the passengers, said, "The whole system wakes up for criminals even at midnight, but there's no one here at the hospital for the common man. I have lost my brother. You cannot see what we are all going through." Chief medical officer at Jaisalmer's Jawahir Hospital Dr Rajendra Paliwal said that around 10 DNA samples were already sent to Jodhpur for testing. Responding to criticism by victims' relatives, hospital superintendent Dr Fateh Singh Bhati said, "Verification is essential before DNA sampling to ensure that no mistakes occur. We expect the process to be completed within 24 hours," he said. An FIR was lodged late on Tuesday night, police officers said on Wednesday. The bus's driver and owner , both of whose identities were withheld, were booked, added police. According to Laxman Ram, a booking agent, there were around 30 passengers when he disembarked at Jaisalmer, where Mahendra Meghwal (35) a DRDO jawan, boarded the bus with his wife, Parvati (30), and children- 12-year-old Khushi, and eight-year-olds Diksha and Shaurya- taking the total count to 35, said police. Others from Jaisalmer who were reported missing in the wake of the accident included Deepak Harijan and Shahrukh Khan, said police. Jodhpur minister-in-charge Madan Dilawar met injured passengers and victims' families on Wednesday. ""The government is making every possible effort to provide the best treatment to the injured and to support the families of the deceased," he said. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has also expressed grief over the tragedy and called for a detailed probe into the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, former minister Saleh Mohammad accused the Jaisalmer administration of neglecting to make the fully-equipped burn unit at Jaisalmer Hospital operational. "Had the burn unit been functional, the severely burnt victims would not have needed to be transported nearly 300 kilometers to Jodhpur for treatment," he said....
