Mussoorie, Oct. 22 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain and thunderstorms in several parts of Uttarakhand on Wednesday, under the influence of a fresh western disturbance affecting the western Himalayan region. According to the IMD Meteorological Centre, Dehradun, very light rain is likely at isolated places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora and Tehri Garhwal districts, while higher reaches above 3,500 metres may experience light snowfall. The system is expected to remain active until Thursday, after which a dry spell is likely to prevail across the state. "Light rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds is expected in parts of the hill districts, while the weather in the plains will remain generally dry," the IMD bulletin stated. The weather department has advised residents and tourists in hilly regions to exercise caution as the disturbance may cause brief disruptions due to cloudy skies, lightning, and slippery slopes. Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed across Uttarakhand on Monday, with maximum temperatures remaining above normal to appreciably above normal in the plains and normal to above normal in the hills, the IMD said in its daily weather report. The highest maximum temperature of 33degC was recorded at Pantnagar (Udham Singh Nagar), while the lowest minimum temperature of 10.6degC was recorded at New Tehri (Tehri Garhwal).
