Gurugram, June 18 -- The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) has disposed of 3,086 cases in six months since its reconstitution on November 27, 2024. Headed by chairman Justice Lalit Batra with members Kuldip Jain and Deep Bhaita, the commission has focused on expediting case resolution and strengthening state-level human rights mechanisms. At the time of reconstitution, 3,171 cases were pending. Between November 27 and May 31, HHRC received 1,438 new complaints, taking the caseload to 4,609. Of these, 3,086 cases were resolved, including 56 pending for over two years. Dr. Puneet Arora, protocol and information officer, said, "the data reflects increasing public trust in the Commission's functioning." Most cases pertain to police functioning, followed by complaints involving municipal bodies, the power department, Haryana Building and Other construction workers' welfare board, health, and education departments. In financial year 2024-25, HHRC received 2,442 complaints, with Gurugram logging the highest (320), followed by Faridabad (258). Of these, 836 have been resolved; 1,606 remain under review. The commission was reconstituted 14 months after becoming non-functional in September 2023. Reappointments were delayed twice due to the model code of conduct-first during general elections, then state polls. Batra recently presented a paper on "Rights of Women Prisoners" at a national conference in Gaya, highlighting Haryana's prison reforms. The HHRC is also inspecting old age homes and orphanages and holding bi-monthly Camp Courts in Gurugram to improve grievance accessibility. Complaints can now be emailed to hhrc-hry@nic.in....
