Hry to aid victims in cyber refunds
Gurugram, Dec. 2 -- Haryana Director General of Police OP Singh announced on Monday that investigating officers in cybercrime cases will assist victims in freezing and refunding defrauded money frozen in mule accounts through Lok Adalats for smaller amounts. This aims to provide speedy financial relief without prolonged legal procedures.
"Haryana Police will facilitate speedy financial relief to victims through Lok Adalat, ensuring timely refunds without unnecessary delay," Singh said. He explained this prevents further hassle or extra costs from hiring legal counsel to recover funds.
Singh spoke after a surprise visit to the Cybercrime police station east in Gurugram, posing as a victim to assess the unit. He stressed banks must follow strict due diligence to assist. "It will be the financial institution's responsibility to compensate the victim for the losses incurred in case their negligence is found," the DGP stated, calling this an important protection for victims' rights.
DGP Singh directed officials to launch mass-scale cyber awareness initiatives in schools and colleges by creating 'Cyber Awareness Ambassadors'-head students educating peers. Outreach will include social media campaigns and community programmes. "Most cybercrimes exploit fear and greed. If anyone promises high returns, offers undue benefits, or pressurises for transferring money or sharing information, it needs to be understood that cyber fraudsters are targeting you. Caution is the best protection," he urged.
Singh noted the police are working in mission mode to ensure victim justice, strengthen technical capacity, and enhance digital safety.
Singh advised citizens to stay alert and lodge complaints via Cyber Helpline 1930.
Singh added, "Our aim is to ensure justice for victims, and boost digital safety across state."...
