Hry Congress, BJP trade barbs over Emergency
India, June 26 -- Marking 50 years since the Emergency, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday held protests and meetings across Haryana, accusing the Congress of trampling democracy in its pursuit of power.
At a Sohna event, BJP state general secretary Dr Archana Gupta said, "Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency on June 25, 1975, murdering the Constitution and democracy." BJP leaders accused Congress of dynastic politics. District BJP chief Ajit Yadav called it "an attack on human dignity." Congress leader Pankaj Dawar dismissed the BJP's events as distractions, alleging the party is using the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and Income Tax Department politically.
