Gurugram, June 3 -- A home guard who was accompanying traffic police officials checking vehicles at a check post in Ballabhgarh in Faridabad, was dragged for more than a kilometre by a minivan, police said on Monday. The incident took place at 2.30pm on Saturday at the T-point on the Ballabhgarh-Sohna Road, they added. Investigators said that traffic police officials at the spot chased the driver of the minivan and finally managed to catch him when he entered the compound of a factory, with the home guard called Gaurav (single name) still hanging from the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Kundan Kumar, 26, was arrested from the spot and was sent to judicial custody after being produced before a Faridabad court on Sunday. According to the police, Kumar belonged to Barhariya, Bihar but lived in Tirkha Colony in Faridabad. Faridabad police, public relations officer, Yashpal Yadav, said that a Faridabad traffic police team was involved in vehicle checking at the intersection on Saturday afternoon when the van reached the spot. "Policemen stopped the van spotting that the carriage section at the rear was open. A couple of home guards were in front of the vehicle while traffic police personnel asked the driver to produce valid documents," he said. Home guards, on many occasions, accompany personnel manning traffic or maintaining law and order. Four to five home guards were accompanying theFaridabad traffic police engaged in vehicle checking when the incident took place. "The van hit the home guard and he caught hold of the wipers and driver's door to avoid being run over," he said.
