Dehradun, July 18 -- The Uttarakhand high court has ordered the immediate suspension of a constable and a deputy jailor at the Central Jail, Sitarganj, in US Nagar district following allegations of assault and intimidation of an inmate. The order came after a report by the secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Udham Singh Nagar, revealed visible injuries on the prisoner and attempts by jail staff to prevent him from disclosing information. The division bench of chief justice G Narender and justice Alok Mahra directed the suspension of constable Ram Singh Kapkoti and deputy jailor Naveen Chauhan during the hearing in the matter on Tuesday. The superintendent of jail has also been ordered to provide the names of other officials present during the DLSA secretary's interaction with the prisoner. According to high court order, the DLSA secretary's report was submitted on July 14, based on his visit to the Central Jail, Sitarganj, on July 11. During the meeting with an inmate, Subhan, the secretary observed that Subhan appeared "very scared" with reddish eyes, visible blood, and swelling in his right eye.
