Gurugram teachers irked over BLO orders
Gurugram, July 4 -- Teachers in Gurugram are upset over orders assigning them duties as Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The Haryana Teachers Association has opposed the move, saying it hampers learning and shows the government is not serious about improving education.
On July 1, the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) issued a show cause notice to several teachers who failed to report for BLO duty on June 30. The notice warned of disciplinary action if they did not give a written explanation within 24 hours.
Leaders from the association said that many teachers, including JBTs, TGTs of key subjects like Maths, Science, and English, and even PGTs (Class-II officers), have been given BLO duties. They argued that this pulls teachers away from schools just as the new session has begun.
"The government is not serious about education. Even after repeated protests, teachers are being called for non-teaching work. Assigning teachers BLO work during school time violates Right to Education (RTE) rules. If teachers are not in schools, how can students get better results?" asked Satyanarayan Yadav, state secretary of the Haryana Teachers Association. He also pointed out that one teacher from Faridabad has been posted for BLO duty in Gurugram, calling it unfair.
The association has demanded that teachers be removed from BLO duties. "We teach children of the common man. This duty affects their future," said Yadav....
