Greenopolis homebuyers demand asset restitution
India, July 13 -- More than 1,200 homebuyers of the stalled Greenopolis project in Gurugram have renewed their plea to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to initiate restitution of Rs.395 crore in attached assets, citing recent ED-led restitutions in similar financial crime cases.
The renewed plea follows the ED's decision on July 1 to return Rs.3.82 crore to the Karnataka State Wakf Board in the Shusheela Chintamani money laundering case. In that case, funds misappropriated by an allegedly corrupt bank and Waqf Board officials were successfully traced, attached, and restored to the rightful claimant. Days later, the ED also released Rs.55.85 crore worth of assets in the Era Infra Engineering case to the successful resolution applicant.
Greenopolis, launched over a decade ago by Three C Shelters Pvt. Ltd., collected Rs.874 crore from homebuyers but the project remained incomplete for nearly 10 years. The ED's investigation has confirmed diversion of funds to shell entities.
Retired Wing Commander DS Malik, spokesperson for the Greenopolis Welfare Confederation, questioned the delay. "If the ED can return funds to other victims, why are we still waiting? Justice delayed is justice denied."...
