GMDA to shift 7km of water pipelines
Gurugram, June 18 -- The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) plans to shift nearly 7 kilometres of master water pipeline along the Dwarka Expressway after discovering that the sanctioned service roads lie directly above the steel pipelines, officials said on Tuesday.
The proposed realignment-from the Basai railway overbridge (RoB) to the Bajghera underpass-could cost around Rs.30 crore. "The plan is likely to be placed before the CEO for approval shortly," said a senior GMDA official.
Originally laid by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), the master pipeline was realigned three years ago by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) during Dwarka Expressway construction as part of GMDA's deposit work. Of the 29-km-long expressway, 19 km falls within Gurugram.
According to the agreement, GMDA is responsible for constructing service roads along this stretch.
GMDA awarded a Rs.99 crore contract for service road construction to a private firm, with nearly 20% of the work already completed. However, the issue surfaced during excavation. "During digging, we found that the pipeline runs right through a 7-km stretch, in the middle of the service road alignment. As it is a steel pipe, road construction cannot proceed," said a senior GMDA official.
According to the revised plan, 4.5 km of the pipeline between Sector 37D and Daultabad and 3.5 km from Daultabad to Bajghera underpass will be relocated. A valve near Ramprastha Society will also be shifted.
A senior NHAI official said the earlier relocation was "under the supervision and requirements of GMDA."...
