India, Aug. 1 -- The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has been asked to deploy a large network of mechanical pumps across the city at locations, which are prone to severe waterlogging. These short-term suggestions have been made by a consultant hired by GMDA, who is preparing a comprehensive drainage plan for the city, officials said. A senior GMDA official had earlier said that they had hired the consultant to prepare a drainage plan, which will suggest measures to expand the capacity of the drainage network, and prevent waterlogging across Gurugram, during the monsoon season. According to the draft plan submitted by the developer, GMDA has been asked to deploy pumps along the Leg 1 stormwater drain, which flows from Nathupur to Udyog Vihar, Old Delhi Road, Sector 22, Palam Vihar and beyond the railway line it flows into the Najafgarh drain. The consultant has identified three locations near Surya Vihar on Old Delhi Road where nine pumps with capacity ranging from 100 LPA to 300 LPA will be deployed. For the Leg 2 stormwater drain, which flows from Chakkarpur to Millennium City Centre, Signature Tower, Sheetla Mata Road and onwards to Najafgarh drain, the consultant has suggested that 15 pumps be deployed for discharge of water. At the Old Delhi Road near Atul Kataria Chowk, the consultant has identified five locations where heavy waterlogging takes place and it has been recommended that 15 pumps be deployed to discharge water into the master stormwater drain. The consultant has suggested that the nullah in Madanpuri should be desilted and made functional. For the Leg 3 stormwater drain, which is also called the Badshahpur drain, the consultant has recommended cleaning of drains, gullies, and construction of surface drains in DLF Phase 1 near Chakkarpur, along the Sector 27/28 road, and along the Sector 28/43 road. Meanwhile, the GMDA on Thursday said that waterlogging was reported at Subhash Chowk, along Narsinghpur Village, Bakhtawar Chowk and Medanta Road. The water along the Narsinghpur service lane was channelised quickly through the kachcha drain that was constructed by GMDA, the authority said. Road gullies are being cleaned by the team across the city. Pump sets have been installed by GMDA at Khandsa Chowk as well as at Narsinghpur," a GMDA official said....
