GMDA to get 7 acres for Sec 103 bus depot
India, May 22 -- Haryana's Directorate of Urban Local Bodies (DULB) has approved the transfer of over 7 acres of land to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), for the construction of a bus terminal in Sector 103, a move which will expand the city's bus service, GMDA officials said.
A senior GMDA official said that they had got approval for the transfer of 7 acres of the municipal corporation's land to the authority and the payment for the land has to be made to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) at the prevailing collector's rate.
To be sure, the city's bus service is expected to add 200 electric buses over the next couple of months.
GMDA general manager, mobility division, Col RD Singhal said that the approval for transfer of land in Sector 103 is a positive development as they have already received approval for this project from the state government.
"The authority will now initiate the process to make the payment for the land to MCG and thereafter take possession. We will start the planning and prepare a DPR for the bus depot and terminal after the land is handed over to us," he said.
Singhal said that the bus terminal in Sector 103 near the Dwarka expressway will help the city bus service expand its footprint in developing sectors and also in neighbouring Delhi. "The electric buses from this depot will be able to cater to commuters going to Dwarka, IGI airport, Sector 21 metro station in Dwarka and other parts of the national Capital. A terminal for electric buses will be set up there to service the new sectors," he said.
According to GMDA officials, Gurugram, at present, has only three bus depots, two at Sector 10 (including extension) and the third at Sector 52/53, Gurugram. The fourth bus depot is currently being developed at Sector 48, Gurugram. All the four depots have a capacity to accommodate 400 buses only. There is a requirement of an additional four bus depots-cum-terminals to accommodate 900 buses, with each terminal having a capacity of 120 to 140 buses, they added.
Singhal, meanwhile, said that as per the Gurugram Mobility Plan 2020, the bus depot cum terminal will help in accommodating additional buses and they have planned to build eight more terminals in the coming years, so that more buses can be run across the city in future.
A communique issued by the department of urban local bodies, on May 16 said, "The government has approved your proposal for transferring of MCG land to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) of area measuring 7.18 acres to develop the city Bus Depot in revenue estate of village Daulatabad, Sector 103 at a total cost of Rs.39.96 crore."...
