Gurugram, July 15 -- The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has finalised the tender for construction of a new water treatment plant (WTP) and large water tanks at Basai, which will help the authority to provide adequate drinking water to city residents, officials said. GMDA, last month, had made a new 100mld water treatment plant at Chandu Budhera operational, which helped it to increase supply of drinking water to city residents from 570 mld to 670 mld. The authority has plans to increase the capacity to 1170 mld by 2028. GMDA supplies 670 mld of water daily to the city from its Basai and Chandu Budhera plants, where it treats the raw water of Yamuna supplied by the irrigation department. According to the authority, the demand in the city has increased in the last few years due to rise in population in developing sectors. The authority keeps a buffer of three days water supply for the city and the new water tanks to be constructed at Basai will have the capacity to hold 3 days buffer stock of water. GMDA executive engineer, Abhinav Verma, said that separate tenders have been floated for construction of a water treatment plant of 100 mld and water tanks with the capacity of 618 mld at Basai. "The tendering process is almost finalised and the work is expected to be allotted by end of this month. These structures will come up over 77 acres of land along the Dwarka Expressway in Basai," he said. According to GMDA officials, four firms have submitted bids for construction of the plant while six firms have come forward for construction of tanks. "The plant will be constructed at a cost of Rs.89 crore while the tanks will cost the authority Rs.98 crore," said Verma.
