Gurugram, Dec. 22 -- The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has decided to reconstruct two key arterial roads to improve connectivity between the Delhi-Jaipur Highway and the Dwarka Expressway through densely populated areas of Old Gurugram. The projects, with a combined estimated cost of Rs.55 crore, will focus on the stretch from IFFCO Chowk to Old Railway Road and from Old Railway Road to Basai Chowk near the Dwarka Expressway. A senior GMDA official said an estimated Rs.55 crore will be spent on the project. The authority will seek approval from the chief minister and is expected to float the tender in the first half of next year. Officials stated the reconstruction will ensure smoother connectivity between the Delhi Jaipur Highway and the Dwarka Expressway. The first component involves rebuilding the road from Basai Chowk to Old Railway Road via Basai Road at an estimated cost of Rs.22 crore. This stretch, which has around 20 residential colonies, frequently floods during monsoon. Along with road reconstruction, a stormwater drain will be constructed to alleviate this chronic issue. Basai Road has remained dilapidated for two years, developing deep potholes, though recent repairs from Pataudi Chowk to Basai Chowk have made it temporarily motorable. The second component, estimated at approximately Rs.33 crore, involves reconstructing the road from Old Railway Road through Maharaja Agrasen Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, MG Road, and Maharana Pratap Chowk, up to IFFCO Chowk. Officials believe the completed projects will substantially improve connectivity and provide relief to daily commuters. The proposal was discussed in a coordination committee meeting in the first week of December under the chairmanship of the principal advisor for urban development, DS Dhesi. A senior GMDA official confirmed, "The authorities will take up the construction of these two roads as a priority."...
