GMDA gets govt nod for 3 out of 5 infra projects
Gurugram, June 3 -- The Haryana government's high-powered purchase committee which met on Monday, has approved three out of the five infrastructure projects, which were proposed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), officials aware of the matter said.
A senior GMDA official said that the committee held a meeting chaired by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, in which the projects pertaining to installation of CCTV cameras in the city, building a 66kva electric substation at Basai and construction of cycle tracks on a sector road were approved.
However, two projects pertaining to desilting and rehabilitation of two large sewerage pipelines on Sohna Road and another between Hero Honda Chowk and Basai were not approved since the bidders had quoted high estimates.
Under the second phase of the CCTV camera project, the authority plans to install 2,272 cameras at 258 locations across developing sectors of the city. These cameras will be used to detect traffic violations, keep an eye on the city, and also detect speeding on national highways.
The system will be installed at a cost of about Rs.136 crore. Five companies have submitted their bids for the project.
"The committee has approved the installation of CCTV cameras under phase two of the project and it will help in ensuring that the entire city, including suburbs, are under surveillance. The authority has also approved an electricity substation at Basai and cycle tracks in sectors 58,59 and 61," said the GMDA official cited above.
The 66kva electricity substation at the Basai water treatment plant will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.20 crore. The substation will help in improving power supply to the city and ensure minimal cuts, a GMDA official said.
Another key project approved by the committee is the construction of footpaths and cycle tracks on both sides of sectors 58,59 and 61 roads. Three contractors have submitted bids for this project.
The two GMDA projects which did not get approval from the state government, included desilting of the sewerage drain from Hero Honda Chowk to Dhanwapur sewage treatment plant. Another project was desilting and rehabilitation of a master drain along Sohna Road.
"The bids for both these projects were unusually high and were not found viable," said the GMDA official cited above....
