Gurugram, Aug. 3 -- Once a scenic corridor connecting two major NCR cities, the Gurugram-Faridabad Road has now earned the nickname "Garbage Gallery" due to rampant illegal dumping and civic neglect. Panoramic Aravalli views have been replaced by mounds of kitchen waste, plastic bags, debris, and glass shards-some spilling onto the carriageway, turning daily commutes into hazardous affairs. "This is not urban neglect anymore; this is environmental vandalism," said Gurugram-based columnist Suhel Seth. "What started near Bandhwari has now infested this highway. "Construction waste has taken over road shoulders and is now inching dangerously close to the main road, putting commuters and the ecosystem at risk." Residents echoed his concerns. "Every day I see new piles of waste. It's like the authorities have quietly accepted this mess," said Dinesh Kumar of Valley View Estate. Cyclist Ramesh Singh flagged safety issues: "Sharp debris poses real danger to two-wheelers. And we're talking about a major road here." Ruchika Sethi Takkar, founder of Citizens for Clean Air, called it a complete collapse of enforcement. "Given the collapse in monitoring and the city's dire waste crisis, the chief minister must be sent an SOS. The Cabinet should consider deploying defence forces to protect our fragile topography and hills. Unchecked inert dumping is damaging soil and increasing vulnerability to extreme weather events," she added. "The deputy commissioner, MCG, and Pollution Board must seek reinforcements. Meanwhile, the CM should stall the S+4 policy in settled colonies until we can manage current loads." In response, MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said a crackdown was underway. In July, 81 vehicles were seized and Rs.12.3 lakh in fines imposed. "Whether someone dumps directly or through hired help, legal action will follow," he said. During a July special drive, the MCG seized 81 vehicles and imposed Rs.12.3 lakh in fines. Dumping hotspots like sectors 48, 29, 65, Ghata, Khandsa, and Sector 9 were under constant monitoring. "The message is clear. We will not tolerate those who treat Gurugram like a landfill," said Dahiya...
