ggm: cops probe fake doctor offering Rs.3-cr for kidneys
Gurugram, Jan. 22 -- An unidentified suspect has been booked for impersonating a doctor from Medanta - The Medicity in Sector 38 in a scam offering Rs.3 crore for a kidney donation, police said.
The case emerged after a contacted woman emailed the hospital on January 14. The suspect used a forged identity card with a fake employee code, police said. Hospital superintendent Dr. Sanjay Durani filed an FIR at Gurugram Sadar police station on Tuesday under the BNS for cheating, impersonation, forgery, and harming reputation, plus IT Act sections, they added.
The suspect posed as Dr. Priya Santosh and edited Medanta webpages to falsely show legal organ purchases, police said. Durani alleged the victim was asked for Rs.8,000 for registration, then Rs.20,000 to process a Rs.3 crore advance. "Later, Rs.10,000 were demanded by the imposter for buying a kidney," he said.
A Medanta spokesperson stated, "Dr Priya Santosh is not employed by nor associated with Medanta." Sandeep Turan, Gurugram police spokesperson, said, "We are trying to trace the suspect. Arrest will be made soon."debashish karmakar...
