Faridabad: Mercedes mows down 28-yr-old biker, driver absconding
Gurugram, April 1 -- A 28-year-old man died after a speeding Mercedes bearing a Delhi registration number struck his motorcycle from behind near an intersection in Sector-15, Faridabad, police officials said on Tuesday.
The deceased, Anand Raj Bind, originally from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, had been living in a rented accommodation in Bhataula, Faridabad, for the past six months with two relatives, officers said. He died during treatment at a private hospital in Delhi on Monday night, they added.
Police said the accident took place between 2am and 2.15am on Sunday when Bind was returning home after delivering an order.
Officers said he slowed down near the intersection in front of the Sector 15 fire station when a white Mercedes-Benz CLA 200, registered in Delhi, rammed into him from behind.
Inspector Ranbir Singh, station house officer of Faridabad Central police station, said the driver fled after abandoning the car.
"Such was the impact that the motorcycle had broken apart with its parts scattered several metres ahead from the spot on the road," he said.
"The car is registered to a private firm in Delhi. We have contacted the firm authorities to trace who was driving the car at the time of the accident to arrest him," he added.
Officers said that they have found no liquor bottles, disposable glasses, or any other suspicious material inside the abandoned car.
Shivam Kumar Bind, the deceased's cousin, said he was alerted around 2.30am.
"Someone had used my cousin's phone to call me to tell me about the location. I reached the spot to find him lying in a pool of blood. Parts of the motorcycle were scattered everywhere," he said.
He added that the victim was flung 25 to 30 feet, while the car was found about 100 metres ahead.
Bind said he arranged a private vehicle to take his cousin to a hospital in Faridabad, from where he was referred to a higher centre and later shifted to a private hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to his injuries.
