Ex-MLC's husband, daughter, two others booked for fraud
Meerut, Aug. 8 -- In a significant development, the Daurala police have registered a case of cheating and criminal intimidation against four individuals, including Dr Om Prakash-husband of former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Dr Sarojini Agarwal-and their daughter Nima Agarwal.
The case was lodged on the directions of a local court following a complaint filed by a woman named Ritu Sachdeva, who alleged she was defrauded of Rs.10 lakh in the name of a housing investment under the Samajwadi Awas Yojana.
According to the complaint, Ritu Sachdeva, a resident of Munna Lal locality on Hastinapur Road under Mawana police station limits, came in contact with the accused in 2015.
She initially met Anurag Garg, a resident of Nehru Nagar (Civil Lines area), who introduced her to his associates Akhilesh Chauhan from Ghaziabad, Dr Om Prakash-owner of Dayanand Hospital-and his daughter Nima Agarwal, a resident of Jawahar Quarters in Lal Kurti.
Sachdeva stated that the accused claimed they were developing a residential housing project under the Samajwadi Awas Yojana near Samauli village on Lawar Road and she showed her interest in the project.
They offered her two flats and also promised to double her investment in three years. Lured by these claims, she invested Rs.10 lakh.
However, with time, she realised that the project did not materialise, nor were the promised returns or flats delivered.
When she demanded her money back, the accused allegedly refused and instead threatened her with dire consequences, including threats to her life.
This is not the first time a complaint has been filed in this matter.
A previous first information report (FIR) on related allegations was also registered at the Daurala police station.
Circle officer (CO) Daurala, Prakashchandra Agarwal, confirmed that the case has been registered on the basis of a court order and that further investigation is underway.
"We will take appropriate action based on the findings of the probe," Prakashchandra Agarwal said.
Notably, just a month ago, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided Dr Sarojini Agarwal's residence and medical college in Kharkhauda.
The raid lasted for over nine hours and was part of a wider investigation into financial irregularities....
