Drunkard kills maternal uncle after mother's death in Bareilly, held
MEERUT, Nov. 4 -- A family in Bareilly's Deoranian town recently lost its two members when a drunken man's reckless act led first to his mother's death and soon after he killed his maternal uncle who had held him responsible for his sister's demise, police said on Monday.
According to police, 26-year-old Sompal, an alcoholic from Shahbad locality, was staying with his maternal uncles Kaderam and Motiram after his family shifted from Jamania village in Pilibhit district around two and a half months ago.
His mother, Sushila Devi, 50, had been living with him in Deoranian after the family sold off their ancestral property in Pilibhit.
On October 26, Sompal asked his mother for money to buy liquor. When she refused, he flew into a rage and set afire own motorcycle after pouring petrol on it, still holding the petrol container in his hand. Fearing that the flames might engulf him, Sushila rushed forward to save her son- but in the process, she sustained severe burns and later died during treatment on November 1.
As Sushila's body was being brought home, her brother Motiram scolded Sompal, accusing him of causing his sister's death, and in anger, he hit him on the head with a stick.
Enraged, Sompal, who was carrying a sickle, attacked Motiram repeatedly on his face and neck, killing him instantly on the roadside. Police arrested Sompal on November 2.
SP (north) Mukesh Chandra Mishra said Sompal has confessed to the crime. He was produced in a court on Sunday and sent to jail....
