Delhi zoo reopens 2 months after closure
New Delhi, Nov. 9 -- After remaining closed for over two months following a bird-flu outbreak, the Delhi zoo reopened to the public on Saturday, drawing more than 8,000 visitors, including nearly 1,000 students from 12 schools.
The reopening introduced a new ticketing option, the "Insta Ticket Booking Service", allowing visitors to skip queues by scanning a QR code at the entrance and booking tickets instantly. "This made our visit so smooth; we did not have to wait at all," said a visitor who came with her two children. "My kids love visiting the zoo, so we come here every winter. My younger one, who is only five, had been insisting for weeks. He is very happy today," she added.
Another visitor, Sakshi Sinha (32) from South Delhi, said, "My niece loves the zoo; from mammals to the bird section, she spends significant time reading all the information and observing the animals. We wanted to come on the first day." Standing near the tiger enclosure, Sinha said her seven-year-old niece "has always been fascinated by tigers... It is incredible to see."
The zoo had been shut since August 30 after several waterbirds tested positive for avian influenza. "About 8,065 visitors came on Saturday," they said....
