Gurugram, Oct. 16 -- Police have seized over a tonne of illegal fireworks and arrested five men during multiple raids across the two districts, police said on Wednesday. Of the total, 1,009.7kg was seized from Gurugram and 103kg from Faridabad. On Wednesday evening, police seized 375.8 kg of fireworks from a residential building in Arjun Nagar, Sector 8. Assistant commissioner of police (New Colony) Kuldeep said 22-year-old Tushar, who works at a phone repair shop, had stored the consignment inside his house. "We are questioning Tushar to ascertain how the fireworks were procured," he said, adding that the crackers were smuggled from Delhi and nearby states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. In another raid, Gurugram police seized 458 kg of crackers from a basement in Jacobpura, Sector 12, and arrested Harsh Arora (26), who allegedly brought the crackers from Delhi. Meanwhile, the chief minister's Flying Squad seized 175.75 kg of fireworks from a house in Bada Bazaar, Badshahpur, and arrested Gagan Raheja (31). "We are continuously carrying out raids to curb the sale of illegal crackers and track suppliers," said DSP Abhimanyu Goyat, adding that checks were also on at 12 licensed warehouses. In Faridabad, police seized 76.7 kg from Ballabhgarh Market and 26.5 kg from Baselwa Colony, arresting Praveen Kumar (44) and Rahul Kumar (22). Meanwhile, Faridabad police spokersperson, Yashpal Yadav said raids "are ongoing in border and remote areas to stop illegal trade."...
