Gurugram, July 30 -- Haryana Urban Local Bodies (ULB) minister Vipul Goel has directed civic officials to launch a comprehensive survey of all sewer lines over 20 years old, in a bid to identify ageing infrastructure prone to overflow and blockages. "Areas with decades-old sewer infrastructure are highly prone to overflow and blockages. We must act before it turns into another urban flooding crisis," Goel said during a high-level meeting with municipal and district officials on Monday. "Gurugram is not just a local city-it's a global brand. We need to match that identity with cleanliness and civic upkeep," he added. Vijay Dhaka, chief engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), said sewer lines span around 1,757km across the city. "We will conduct a survey for the entire network and are currently reviewing old records to check if any lines were replaced in the past two decades. Once the documentation is verified, we will have a clear picture." The survey begins Monday, prioritising complaint-heavy areas like Rajendra Park, Patel Nagar, Khandsa Road, Shanti Nagar, and Jacobpura, officials said. "Waterlogged roads on Golf Course Extension Road have become a nightmare during peak hours. Authorities need to act before it worsens," said Reena Malhotra, a marketing professional. Meanwhile, Sushil Yadav from Sheetla Mata Road said sewage overflows are "a health hazard." Adil Nargolwala from DLF Phase IV said, "What is required is a global tender. Gurgaon is one of India's richest cities. I don't think the MCG has the expertise or even the will." Ward 34 councillor Surekha Chauhan said tenders have been floated and desilting will begin post-monsoon. "Locals have been facing this for over 12 years."...
