Gurugram, July 13 -- A toddler died and two other children were injured after a newly-built wall collapsed followed by soil caving in at a construction site in Gurugram's Sector 40, on Saturday evening, police said. Police identified the deceased as 11-month-old Abhishek Kumar, originally from Damoh in Madhya Pradesh. According to the police, a four-year-old boy and another 15-year-old boy called Girish Kumar were injured in the accident. Police said the four-year-old's name could not be ascertained since his parents could not be contacted. All three children were pulled out from the debris and were taken to the Sector 10A civil hospital for treatment where doctors declared the toddler dead. Police said the incident took place between 2pm and 2.30pm when all three, who were children of workers engaged at the construction site, were playing in the freshly dug basement. Sukhbir Singh, station house officer of the Sector 50 police station said, "The site, on which work had recently begun, was wet due to continuous rain. A wall was constructed for safety but it collapsed under pressure from the wet soil. The SHO said that the plot belonged to Manjeet Singh of Jharsa village....
