Dehradun, Sept. 13 -- Chief secretary Anand Bardhan on Friday carried out a ground inspection of the ongoing construction works in Haridwar as part of preparations for the 2027 Kumbh Mela, officials said, adding that he directed them to ensure that railings are installed at all ghats to enhance the safety of devotees. Accompanied by Mela Officer Sonika, District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, Pramendra Dobhal and other senior officials, Bardhan reviewed multiple development projects across the mela area. His visit covered the CCR Mela Control Room, Gauri Shankar Island, Namami Gange Chandi Ghat, Moksha Ghat, Bairagi Camp, Daksh Island, Pantdweep, Har Ki Pauri and Malviya Island. Among the key projects inspected were the proposed multi-modal hub at Gauri parking lot on Najibabad highway, the ropeway to Chandi Devi temple, and a cultural hub near Divya Prem Mission Ashram at Neeldhara. He also reviewed plans for a laser show facility at Namami Gange Ghat, camping arrangements for Akhadas and religious organisations in Bairagi camp, and the construction of 15 new ghats along the Mayapur escape channel. Bardhan also examined plans for road strengthening from Iris bridge to Matri Sadan via Sri Yantra temple, the conversion of 800 metres of kutcha road into a paved one, and the canal front development scheme near Nakshatra Vatika in Kankhal. This project includes parking facilities, landscaping, and pedestrian bridges to connect Daksh temple, Bairagi area and Satighat.
