Celebrations turn fatal: Man dies in F'bad crash
Gurugram, Jan. 2 -- A 22-year-old man was killed and four of his friends critically injured when their car crashed on Mathura Road in Faridabad early on Thursday morning, police said, adding that the group was traveling from Faridabad to Vrindavan to celebrate New Year.
The accident occurred near Bata Chowk Metro Station in Faridabad between 4.30am and 4.35am. Investigators said the car was moving at such high speed that it flipped after hitting metal barricades on the road.
Police identified the deceased as Saransh Verma, who was driving the Maruti-Suzuki Baleno car owned by his father. The injured passengers were identified as Raghav Kathuria, 21, Tushar Kumar, 24, Yatharth Grover, 22, and Lakshya Gera, 23. All are residents of NIT Faridabad. Gera is a law student, while the others are employed at various law firms.
Investigators said prima facie they have not found evidence that anyone in the group was drunk. However, they are awaiting results of medical tests to rule out all possibilities.
Local witnesses, according to one of the officials cited above, told police that they "heard a loud noise", which they suspect was a tyre burst moments before the crash, leading police to investigate if a tyre explosion caused Verma to lose control.
Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer of Faridabad police, said emergency response vehicles and ambulances were rushed to the spot after the crash was reported by commuters. "All five were rushed to various nearby private hospitals for treatment where Verma was declared dead on arrival. He had sustained a severe injury in the back of his head, likely after getting ejected out of the car during the rollover," he said, adding that no foul play is suspected.
Police have recorded the statement of one of the injured occupants - Gera - and have launched an inquiry under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at Central Faridabad police station. The investigation is ongoing....
