CBI seeks adjournment over sanction to prosecute Haryana cops in murder case
Panchkula, May 15 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday requested an adjournment from a CBI court concerning the case where four Haryana police officers are accused of falsely implicating a school bus conductor in the 2017 murder of a Class 2 student at a Gurugram school.
The CBI had filed a separate charge sheet in the Panchkula court against these police officials, seeking their prosecution under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The case was scheduled for the submission of a status report for the grant of prosecution sanction by the authority, following orders issued by the Punjab and Haryana high court in a 2022 criminal case.
During the hearing, the CBI's public prosecutor informed special judicial magistrate Anil Kumar Yadav that despite repeated reminders regarding the high court's order dated January 24, 2025, the competent authority is yet to issue an order on the sanction for prosecuting the accused police officers. The CBI sought a final opportunity to file the status report.
Meanwhile, the counsel for the complainant also requested an adjournment to present arguments on whether prosecution sanction is required for the accused officers. Allowing both requests, the court adjourned the matter until May 28.
This development follows a significant ruling by the Punjab and Haryana high court in January 2025, which overturned the Haryana government's decision to deny sanction for the prosecution of the four Haryana cops. These officials allegedly falsely implicated Ashok Kumar, a bus conductor, in the murder of the seven-year-old boy in 2017.
