blaze at noida garage guts 3 cars, bikes; short circuit suspected
Noida, May 26 -- A fire broke out at a car garage in Noida's Sector 6 early Sunday morning following a thunderstorm and rain, fire officials said. Six fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames. "Around 5.30am, we received a call from a worker about a fire at a car garage in B Block of Sector 6. A team of firefighters rushed to the spot with six fire tenders," said Shiv Narayan Singh, fire officer, Phase 1.
He added, "After an hour of effort, the fire was extinguished. No casualties were reported. The garage was closed at the time, and no one was inside."
Mohammad Aman, a worker at the garage, said, "Early Saturday, electricity was snapped due to thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. We suspect that when the power resumed, a short circuit occurred, sparking the fire."
"Three cars were completely gutted and others partially damaged. Items stored inside also caught fire," Aman added. He claimed the fire department responded after 3-4 calls. Officials, however, denied any delay....
