India, May 21 -- Haryana has reported eight deaths due to mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, till date, according to the state health department data on Thursday. The state reported 48 cases of the fungal infection on Thursday, taking the tally to 248.

According to officials, the cases maybe underreported as many hospitals were yet to share data.

With five cases in the past 24 hours, Gurugram had the most number of such cases at 109. The district has reported three deaths so far, according to the data.

Meanwhile, expecting a major surge in the next 10 days, senior officials are working on floating the global tender for amphotericin - the only drug used for treating patients suffering from the disease.
