Bareilly, Nov. 14 -- The Bareilly Municipal Corporation is set to demolish more than 100 illegal constructions across the city, including 74 shops built near a Mazar in the Novelty area and 27 houses in Shahbad locality under Bhud ward. After completing a detailed survey, the civic body has finalised preparations for a demolition drive to reclaim government and municipal land from encroachers. Officials said the market developed near the Mazar in the Novelty area has been found to be constructed on government property. Municipal commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Maurya said the civic body has confirmed several instances of illegal occupation in Shahbad and nearby areas. "Encroachments on municipal and public property have been verified, and bulldozer action is being planned," he said. The move follows a formal complaint by councillor Shalini Johri, who alleged that portions of government school land and religious properties had been illegally occupied. Acting on her complaint, the civic authorities conducted a detailed survey and discovered multiple encroachments on plots belonging to the municipal corporation, educational institutions and religious sites.
