Rudrapur, Dec. 29 -- Police have booked a 52-year-old man for allegedly tampering with official documents and attempting to withdraw government funds by forging the signature and stamp of a block development officer (BDO) in Sitarganj, Udham Singh Nagar district. A probe has been launched into the case, said Sitargan circle officer BS Dhoni. The accused, identified as Wasim Kureishi, works as an Urdu translator at the Sitarganj block development office. Officials said Kureishi was appointed during the Uttar Pradesh regime, before Uttarakhand got statehood status. Currently, as there is no specific requirement for Urdu translation work, he had been assigned other administrative tasks. Sitarganj BDO CR Arya said Kureishi tried to obtain a cheque book and withdraw money from government accounts by forging his signature. "The employee tried to procure a cheque book and withdraw cash from banks by using forged signatures on documents related to the Vidhayak Nidhi account. I lodged an FIR against him at the local police station," Arya said. As per the complaint, Kureishi first applied for a cheque book from an Indian Bank branch on December 2, submitting documents bearing a forged signature of the BDO. When that attempt failed, he allegedly tried the next day to withdraw Rs.4.50 lakh from a bank using BDO's stamp and fake signature.htc...
