ATS deployed for char dham yatra security amid tension with Pak
Haridwar, May 9 -- In the wake of heightened security concerns following the recent terror incident in Pahalgam and a surge in the number of pilgrims, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Uttarakhand police has been deployed in Haridwar as from here the Char Dham pilgrimage begins, the senior superintendent of police said on Thursday.
"Pilgrim safety is our utmost priority during the Char Dham pilgrimage. The Anti-Terrorism Squad, Bomb Disposal Squad, and Sniffer Dog Units have been deployed for intensified checking and patrolling at entry points, the railway station, and the core Mela zone," SSP Pramendra Dobhal said.
He further said that the police is coordinating closely with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) "to ensure foolproof security arrangements".
"At the city control room near Har-ki-Pauri, CCTV footage is being monitored round the clock. Surveillance has also been intensified at key entry points in Narsain, Roorkee, Haridwar, Har-ki-Pauri, major shrines, public spaces, and on highways NH-58 and NH-72," the Haridwar SSP said....
