amid smog, 4 hurt in chain crashes on epe
Ghaziabad/Noida, Dec. 16 -- Four people were injured in multiple crashes on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in dense fog early Monday. In Ghaziabad, a 10-vehicle pile-up near Ikla village around 7am injured three, officers aware of the incident said.
Sarvesh Kumar Pal, staion house officer of Wave City police station, said, "A light commercial vehicle applied brakes due to dense fog... Three people, including a woman, were injured... due to low visibility conditions." Police identified the injured as Pawan Kumar, 35; Usha Devi, 38; and Kapil Kumar, 45.
In neighbouring Gautam Budh Nagar, a 24-year-old truck driver was critically injured in a chain collision involving 10 vehicles near the 87-km mark of the EPE in Greater Noida around 9 am.
"A vehicle driver. suddenly applied brakes. The driver fled the scene," said Arvind Kumar, SHO (Ecotech 1). The injured was identified as Shah Alam of Hapur. Traffic was restored after three to four hours.HTC...
