NEW DELHI, Nov. 20 -- A Delhi court on Wednesday sent Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, chairman of Faridabad-based Al-Falah University, to 13 days of Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody, observing that the money-laundering investigation was at a "nascent stage" and allegations carried "significant gravity." ED alleged Siddiqui generated over Rs.415 crore through misrepresenting accreditations and statutory status, layering funds through family-linked entities and controlling financial decisions. The probe stems from two FIRs by Delhi Police Crime Branch on November 13. One accuses the university of projecting expired NAAC accreditations as valid; the other alleges fabrication of UGC recognition under Section 12(B), though approved only under Section 2(f). Archived website snapshots showed repeated false claims, used to mislead students, earning Rs.415.1 crore between FY 2018-19 and 2024-25. ED said all accounts operated under a single PAN, with I-T returns filed in the trust's name, enabling Siddiqui's control as the "controlling mind." Over Rs.400 crore was diverted for personal interests, transferred to entities like Amla Enterprises LLP and Karkun Construction.
