After ggm, F'bad gets first legal surrogacy nod under A.R.T. Act
Gurugram, Jan. 9 -- Faridabad recorded its first legal surrogacy approvals under the Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2024 in early January, district health officials said Thursday. Approximately six couples have initiated applications through the chief medical officer's office.
Dr SS Dahiya, the district's nodal surrogacy officer, stated applicants must obtain medical and eligibility certificates. "An empowered committee called 'District Appropriate Authority', with the deputy commissioner and chief medical officers as its members, will decide the feasibility of the cases," Dahiya said, noting a three-stage screening process. The department has designated 25 registered clinics for the procedure.
"Surrogacy is permitted only under specific medical conditions, including uterine or pelvic disorders or repeated failure of embryo implantation. It may also be allowed in cases involving serious medical conditions such as hypertension, cardiac ailments, or significant genetic disorders," Dahiya added.
Meanwhile, health officials said 15 to 20 surrogacy procedures are currently ongoing....
