Gurugram, Dec. 18 -- Investigators are probing suspected links between plastic and industrial waste fires in Bar Gujjar and Kota Khandewla villages. The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) plans to file a "comprehensive complaint" against those involved in illegal scrap trade and waste processing at makeshift karkhanas in the area. Officials said the complaint targets night-time operations recovering low-cost plastic goods from industrial waste. A major blaze broke out early Wednesday at an open waste processing site in Nuh's Kota Khandewla. "Nine to ten fire tenders... were dispatched at 7.15am... It took nearly six hours to completely extinguish the blaze," said Lalit Verma, fire officer in Manesar. This followed a fire Tuesday in the crusher zone near Naurangpur. Verma said the two similar fires within 24 hours suggest a possible pattern. Preliminary findings indicate a rivalry between two local businesses may have led to the fire being set "intentionally". Locals alleged the fire was triggered by a dispute between scrap workshop owner Vinod Kumar, alias 'Fauji', and crusher site owner Ravinder Kumar, alias 'Monu'. A resident alleged the karkhana "used to melt plastic in drums, crude furnaces, and makeshift extruders late at night." Another said, "Monu had posted a video on social media about the illegal burning... sparking a verbal spat." Officials said Fauji alleged Monu kidnapped his workers, leaving a fire unattended. Monu denied this, stating, "My repeated complaints starting from July 2025... went unheard by local police." A senior Kherki Dhaula police official said both parties submitted complaints and investigations are underway. Another Bar Gujjar police official noted, "initial findings hint at accidental fire... it is concerning that similar fires are taking place as cases of suspected arson." An HT spot check found open waste processing sites with industrial and plastic waste within the Aravalli range. Sidharth Bhargava, HSPCB regional officer, said, "a detailed complaint would be submitted soon... Penalties will be imposed. An FIR will also be registered." Officials at the Municipal Corporation of Manesar said industrial waste does not fall under their jurisdiction and denied responsibility....
