Dehradun/Mussoorie, May 9 -- Six people were killed and another was critically injured after a helicopter crashed in the Gangnani area of Uttarkashi district on Thursday, officials said. The incident occurred around 8.30am when the helicopter, en route from Kharsaili to Gangotri Dham, plunged into a gorge about 200-250 metres deep. Maneri police station in-charge Manoj Aswal said five passengers and the pilot were killed in the crash while another injured passenger sustained grievous injuries. "The helicopter, bearing registration number VT-QXF, was carrying seven people, including the pilot Captain Robin Singh (60) and five passengers," Aswal said. "Upon receiving the alert, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police promptly reached the site and started a search and rescue operation," he said. The deceased passengers have been identified as Kala Soni (61), Vijaya Reddy (57), Ruchi Aggarwal (56), Radha Aggarwal (79) and Vedavati Kumari (48). The injured passenger, identified as M Bhaskar (51), was airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for treatment. The district officials said that the chopper, operated by Aerotrans Services Pvt. Ltd, left the Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun for Kharsali following which it was on its way to the Gangotri Dham. All five passengers were pilgrims on their way to the shrine. The officials said that they have yet to ascertain the reason behind the accident. They further said that Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will be investigating the crash. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences over the death. "Very sad news has been received about some casualties in a helicopter crash near Gangnani in Uttarkashi," he said in a post X. He further directed the local administration to provide all possible assistance to the injured. "I have instructed the administration to provide all possible help to the injured and investigate the accident. I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard."...
