Rudrapur, July 24 -- Despite being granted bail, 45 inmates are still in Haldwani jail as they failed to produce sureties to get themselves released.

"These inmates have been granted bail but due to lack of sureties to be produced in the court, they are forced to stay in the jail. We have informed their relatives but they haven't yet showed up," said SK Sukhija, superintendent, Haldwani jail.

As per the rule, two sureties are needed in the court for releasing an inmate after bail.

According to jail administration, 1,581 inmates are housed in Haldwani jail of which 1516 are males.

Out of 45 inmates who were granted bail, 35 are from US Nagar and 10 from Nainital.
