India, July 4 -- There has been a three-fold jump in traffic violations in Faridabad from January to June this year as compared to the corresponding period last year, Faridabad traffic police officials said on Thursday. They pointed out that more than 0.44 million challans were issued in the first six months of the year while the number of challans issued last year was 0.15 million. Faridabad DCP (traffic), Jaibir Singh said that more than Rs.4.89 crore in the form of penalty has already been collected in the last six months from traffic violators. "This is the count of only those who have paid the fine. Once other violators dispose of the pending challans via virtual or physical courts, the total amount of fine collected will go up," he said. Singh said that enforcement of traffic rules had been intensified this year so accidents could be avoided. "It's due to this reason that the number of violators has increased three-fold when compared to the same period last year," he said.
