2K structures to be demolished for elevated road project in Doon
Mussoorie, May 16 -- The district administration and the Public Works Department (PWD) have identified 2,619 structures, which will fall within the corridor of the proposed 26-km elevated road in Dehradun, and began marking them, officials aware of the matter said on Thursday.
The elevated road, a flagship initiative launched by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, aims to ease traffic congestion in city.
Jitendra Tripathi, executive engineer of the PWD's Dehradun regional division, said that since the start of the marking exercise on Tuesday, around 21 km of the proposed stretch - along the Bindal and Rispana rivers - has been earmarked.
"The Rs.6,000-crore project will involve land acquisition across 26 neighbourhoods, affecting 2,619 structures. Property owners will be eligible for either land-for-land compensation or monetary compensation," said Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal. Garima Mehra Dasauni, Congress spokesperson, said, "The government must share a concrete road map for the rehabilitation of over 2,600 families being displaced along the Bindal and Rispana rivers."...
