2 Kanwariyas killed, 30 injured in Alwar
Jaipur, July 24 -- A truck carrying Kanwariyas came in contact with a hanging electric wire in Alwar district on Wednesday, leaving two dead and 30 others injured, police said.
Police said that the incident took place when a group of Kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Shiva) and some locals were performing a "parikrama" (circumambulation) around the village. A DJ truck in the group came in contact with a hanging electric wire due to which the pilgrims were electrocuted.
"Two people died and around 30 are injured," the police said, adding that three of the injured are in critical condition. The deceased were identified as Gopal (22) and Suresh Prajapat (40), both residents of Beechganwa. After the parikrama, the group was to head towards a temple.
A video of the incident also surfaced on social media, showing devotees dancing before several of them, walking close to the truck, suddenly collapsed on ground. Due to the spread of electric current, several people, including women, were caught in the electrocution within seconds and fell, police said.
After the incident, locals blocked Laxmangarh-Mundawar road in protest of hanging wires and said several complaint have previously been given to authorities but no action was taken....
