2-day power outage sparks outcry from Sec 99-102 dwellers
Gurugram, May 28 -- A severe power outage along the stretch from Dhankot Chowk to Kherki Majra has allegedly left residents and shopkeepers in Gurugram's Sectors 99 and 102 without electricity for over two days, sparking frustration amid rising summer temperatures. The outage, which began on May 25 following rainfall and thunderstorms, has yet to be resolved, despite repeated assurances from the electricity department, locals claim.
"There is absolutely no urgency being shown by the officials. It's shocking that the fault locator wasn't even available yesterday, despite telling us otherwise," said Sunil Sareen, vice president of the Imperial Gardens Condominium Association and member of DXP-GDA. "This stretch houses many residential societies, schools, and shops that are suffering badly," he added.
Residents claim they were initially informed that engineers were working with a fault locator device and that power would be restored by the evening of May 26. However, they later learned that the equipment only arrived on May 27.
In response, Manoj Kumar, executive engineer at DHBVN (city division), said the outage was caused by a fault in an 11kV underground feeder near Kherki Majra. "Two 66kVA transformers located ahead of the fault are shut. However, power is being supplied to infrastructure before the fault. Residential societies have separate feeders and are unaffected," he asserted.
Kumar also attributed delays to waterlogging at the site, saying, "We've pumped out water to carry out underground repairs using the fault locator machine." He added that a separate outage early Tuesday caused by a vehicle crashing into an electric pole had been fixed promptly.
However, in Sector 99A, over 750 families living in Habitat Residences reported facing more than 50 hours of power cuts this month alone. "These outages are damaging our electrical appliances, disrupting our routines, and compromising our safety at night," said resident Parveen Thakur.
Residents have now appealed to the Haryana Power Minister for immediate intervention and long-term infrastructure upgrades. "We are regular bill payers and expect uninterrupted power supply as a basic right. The lack of communication and ineffective management reflect poorly on the department's planning and preparedness," they said in a joint statement....
